Hydro - Sodium Hydrosulfite, 450g
Jacquard's Sodium Hydrosulfite, often referred to as 'Hydro' - a powerful reducing agent widely used in textile dyeing, particularly for indigo dye processes. It plays a key role in converting Indigo Dye into a soluble form, allowing it to properly penetrate fabric fibres & achieve the rich, deep blues that indigo dyeing is known for.
In addition to dye work, Hydro is also commonly used as a gentler alternative to chlorine bleach for removing colour from dyed fabrics or restoring brightness to vintage & antique textiles. Its controlled reducing action helps lift unwanted dye while being less harsh on delicate fibres.
Jacquard Hydro Instructions For Use
For use with Jacquard’s Pre-reduced Indigo: use 1 part Indigo Dye, 2 parts Sodium Hydrosulfite (Hydro), 4 parts Soda Ash. (Use 1 gal/3.79 L of water for every 0.18/5 g of dye.)
For use as a Colour Remover: use in equal parts with Soda Ash (1:1) at 3-5% by dry weight of fabric. Heat to 185°F/85°C, add fabric and continue heating. Colour removal works best at a rolling boil. Keep fabric moving for 10 to 20 minutes or until colour has left as desired. Wash with mild detergent in cool water.
Note: not all dyes are fully susceptible to colour removal. Results may vary. Test first when possible.
